AkzoNobel opens world’s most advanced paint plant in UK
AkzoNobel NV has officially opened the world’s most advanced and sustainable paint plant in Ashington, UK.The hi-tech facility – which cost more than €100m to build – represents the largest ever global investment by the company’s decorative paints business. It will become the new centre of production for Dulux, the UK’s leading decorative paint brand.The Ashington plant uses a variety of renewable energy sources, including photovoltaic cells and a biomass boiler, alongside a highly automated manufacturing process which saves water, waste and energy. SABIC continued its global expansion with the inauguration of a new polypropylene (PP) pilot plant in Geleen, the Netherlands, and also announced new investment in a PP extrusion facility to be built at the same location. The highly automated PP extrusion line is expected to be in operation in the fourth quarter of 2017.Yousef Al-Benyan, SABIC vice chairman and CEO, and the Dutch minister of economic affairs, Henk Kamp, were present at the opening ceremony for the pilot plant.
