Self-healing hydrogels and its industrial applications

Hydrogels are water-swollen, cross-linked polymeric structures produced by reactions of monomers or by hydrogen bonding. Hydrogels are composed of two constituents. One constituent is hydrophilic polymers like polyvinyl alcohol,sodium polyacrylate, acrylate polymers and copolymers, while the second constituent is water. Hydrogels possess the hydrophilic quality which makes them a good analog for natural tissues and they even tend to mimic the flexibility and other textural qualities of biological media. Read More

 

A Schulman Inc (SHLM) has launched the first PA6-12T plastic material for 3D printing using selective laser sintering. This new glass filed material is launched by Prodways, one of Europe’s leading manufacturers of industrial 3D printers, and is the result of an exclusive partnership between the two companies. International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (IFF) said that is honouring the 50th anniversary of its Master Perfumer, Carlos Benaim with a series of celebrations throughout the next year. Born in Morocco and the son of a pharmacist, Benaim was fascinated by the botanicals and essential oils used in his father’s business. After answering an ad for a position at IFF in 1967, his year of training culminated with an apprenticeship with the legendary perfumer Ernest Shiftan – the “father of perfumery” at IFF – and later, trained with Bernard Chant (late IFF perfumer). Read More

Bayer AG has appointed Heiko Schipper (48), deputy executive vice president of Nestle SA, to its board of management, effective 1 March 2018. He will succeed Erica Mann as the head of the consumer health division, which is headquartered in Basel, Switzerland. Mann has announced that she does not intend to extend her contract, which was scheduled to run until 31 December 2018. As it has been possible to find a successor at an earlier date, Mann has asked the supervisory board to be able to hand over leadership of the consumer health business and leave the company effective 31 March 2018.
