Clariant opens state-of-the-art masterbatch site in Saudi Arabia

Clariant International Ltd has officially opened its new state-of-the-art masterbatch production site in Yanbu, Saudi Arabia. Evonik Industries AG and Siemens AG are planning to use electricity from renewable sources and bacteria to convert carbon dioxide (CO2) into speciality chemicals. The two companies are working on electrolysis and fermentation processes in a joint research project called Rheticus. The project is due to run for two years. The first test plant is scheduled to go on stream by 2021 at the Evonik facility in Marl, Germany which produces chemicals such as butanol and hexanol, both feedstocks for special plastics and food supplements, for example. Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) and Qingdao Vland Biotech Group Co Ltd have entered into a joint development agreement for the development and commercialization of enzymes for animal feed applications.  In addition to ADM’s research centre in Decatur, Illinois, ADM will open a new US enzyme research and development lab in California that will directly support activities being undertaken in the joint development agreement. Vland will also conduct research and development in its Qingdao research laboratory, which will be upgraded to a new state-of-the-art facility. Read more

 

ExxonMobil Corporation has signed a petroleum agreement with the government of Ghana to acquire exploration and production rights for the Deepwater Cape Three Points block. Exploration activities, including the acquisition of seismic data and analysis, are expected to commence later in 2018. The Deepwater Cape Three Points block, located 57 miles off the coast of Ghana, measures approximately 366,000 acres in water depths ranging from 5,085 feet to 9,350 feet. Read more
