Givaudan strengthens sustainable patchouli supply chain in Indonesia


Givaudan SA said that it is strengthening its sustainable patchouli oil sourcing and improving conditions for smallholder producers in its collection network in Indonesia through a multi-year project. The project is funded by the Givaudan Foundation and in cooperation with the international non-governmental organisation Swisscontact. Training programmes are being offered to over 1,000 patchouli producers and their families on good agricultural and distillation practices, improved management of household income as well as education on nutrition. Lanxess AG said that it will expand the capacity for Macrolex dyes at its Leverkusen site. With an investment volume of more than €5 million, the current production capacity is to be increased by 25 percent, which will be available by the end of 2018. The soluble, organic dyes of the Macrolex brand are primarily used for the colouration of high-quality plastics products such as beverage bottles, electronic devices, car taillights and children’s toys. BASF Corporation said that it is introducing Hepaxa, a product that can help tens of millions of patients manage non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), one of the most common forms of chronic liver disease. Providing highly concentrated and pure eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), Hepaxa is the first product in US, specifically designed to address a buildup of fat in the liver, known as steatosis, in NAFLD patients. Oneok Inc (OKE), one of the largest energy midstream service providers in US and a Fortune 500 company announced plans to invest approximately $2.3 billion between now and 2020 to construct: A new 400,000-barrel per day (bpd) natural gas liquids (NGL) pipeline – the Arbuckle II pipeline – that will create additional NGL transportation capacity between Oneok’s extensive mid-continent infrastructure in Oklahoma and the company’s existing NGL facilities in Mont Belvieu, Texas.
