World Environment Day 2018: Beat Plastic Pollution

‘Beat Plastic Pollution’ is the mantra, as we come to celebrate the World Environment Day (WED) – 5 June. The theme implores people to come together to combat one of the great environmental challenges of our time. It invites us all to consider how we can make changes in our everyday lives to reduce the heavy burden of plastic pollution on our natural places, our wildlife and our own health. Every year World Environment Day has a different global host country, where the official celebrations take place, this year it is India. Read more


Borealis AG has inaugurated a €15 million investment project in mtm plastics GmbH. Based in Niedergebra, Germany, mtm plastics GmbH is regarded as a technology leader in the recycling of mixed post-consumer plastic waste and as one of Europe’s largest producers of post-consumer polyolefin recyclates. An additional 2.5 million euros will be invested this year in environmental protection and capacity expansion of mtm compact, the sister company in Furstenwalde. Borealis fully acquired the German plastics recyclers mtm plastics GmbH and mtm compact GmbH in July 2016. Read more


BASF SE said that it is presenting its broad portfolio of innovative solutions for the ready-mixed concrete industry under the brand name of Master Builders Solutions. Products in the MasterEase series are water-reducing admixtures that significantly improve the rheological properties of fresh concrete. This makes it easier for concrete mixtures with a high share of aggregates to be mixed, pumped, placed and smoothed. MasterEase admixtures allow the resource-efficient optimization of concrete, time-efficient construction and the production of concrete surfaces of outstanding quality. Read more


ExxonMobil Corporation has completed the purchase of half of Equinor’s interest in the BM-S-8 block offshore Brazil, which contains part of the 2-billion-barrel, pre-salt Carcara oil field. Production from the field is expected to start in 2023 or 2024. ExxonMobil and its co-venturers are advancing development activities, including concept selection and finalizing all remaining commercial agreements. Exploration drilling began on the Guanxuma prospect in BM-S-8 on April 25. ExxonMobil now holds a 36.5 percent interest in the BM-S-8 block and Equinor holds 36.5 percent. Petrogal Brasil and Barra Energia each hold 17 percent and 10 percent, respectively. Read more
